Ramadan in Turkey
Ramazan is a time of
FASTING,
PRAYER
and
CELEBRATION.....
Fasting means letting nothing pass the lips.We don't eat anything,I mean no food, no drink, no chewing gum and smoking.. We have to pay attention to not put anything in our mouth during the day.
If Ezan starts in the afternoon it means: we can start to eat.
It's a very special supper for us because it is the first eating that we eat from sunrise to sunset. So that we take pains about preparing the dinner.
After the dinner we go to a cami for prayer and watch the Semazens show.
It's very restful, calming and they seem amazing. It's also known as Sufi Spinning. It's a physically active meditation for who done this. These Semazens don't think anything while they are spinning their's bodies in repatitive circles.
We complete the thirty days in this way.Towards the end of these thirty days everybody goes to shopping.
And the morning of the Bayram we wake up very early, all of the family members put on their best clothes which called 'BAYRAMLIK' and the men is going to the mosque to perform the special ritual prayer for the Bayram. After that the men come to home and the breakfast is had by all members in the family.
The most special thing is that, we show our respect to older people by kissing their right hand and placing it on our's forehead. Also lots of children go around their neighbour door to door and wish everyone A HAPPY BAYRAM.......
And of course chocolates, sugars and especially BAKLAVA are very important that we offer them to our visitors......
.................................HAVE A HAPPY BAYRAMS............................................
